Nature Walk and Art Workshop
January 07, 2025
Let’s start the new year by celebrating some of our native plants and the different forest formations they live in.
This Monday (January 13, 2025) also marks the birthday of the late Dr. Daniel A. Lagunzad, one of the Philippines’ foremost botanists who championed the conservation of Philippine flora. In his honor, we invite you to the UP IB – EDC BINHI Threatened Species Arboretum.
The arboretum is a man-made jungle that currently houses around 70 species of trees and shrubs, including the Malakatmon, Mangkono, Molave, and Antipolo.
There will also be an art workshop by Ms. Kath Baraan of @deartoourhearts. Kath advocates for Philippine biodiversity using the transformative power of visual arts. Holding a degree in Biology and currently pursuing a Master’s in Conservation and Restoration Ecology, she is a dedicated biologist that gracefully entwines her passion for nature and art to champion the conservation of the Philippines’ endangered and endemic species.
Registration is free, and art materials will be provided (though you’re welcome to bring your own!). The materials to be used include:
Watercolor paints
Watercolor brushes
Watercolor paper or sketchbook
Pen/pencil
Slots for the art workshop are limited to the first 20 people, and attending the nature walk is a prerequisite for joining. Please wear comfortable clothes, bring umbrellas and insect repellents, and get ready to meet some of our floristic treasures.
