The Institute of Biology and the UP Diliman Institute of Biology Alumni, Inc. mourn the passing of Professor Reynaldo A. Tabbada on 11 October 2021. Dr. Tabbada, a plant physiologist, was a Professor of Botany at the then Department of Botany and also at the Institute of Biology, College of Science, University of the Philippines, Diliman. He obtained his B.Sc. in Botany in UP Diliman in 1963 and Ph.D. in Biology at the University of Chicago in 1971. Dr. Tabbada became the Chair of the Department of Botany in 1976, becoming the youngest to assume that position at only 33 years old. He was instrumental in the revision of the curricular programs in Botany and Biology to make these responsive to the needs of the country and to keep them in stride with the advancing frontiers of biological research and developments. He was a prolific scientist, publishing many papers in plant physiology. He also mentored numerous PhD, M.Sc. and B.Sc. students, many of whom eventually becoming active members of the academe. Dr. Tabbada also served as editor of the Natural and Applied Science Bulletin of the then College of Arts and Sciences, UP Diliman.

Dr. Tabbada is survived by his wife, Edna Mae, and two daughters, Reyna Mae and Fatima Julienne. A Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday, 16 October 2021, at 9 AM. (Zoom ID – 1233796674)
