The Plant Molecular Genetics Laboratory (PMG) aims to conduct genetic studies geared towards improvement of Philippine agricultural crops. Established on August 2015, PMG has already produced coconut molecular markers using Next Generation Sequencing technology. PMG is currently developing a mapping population to be utilized in coconut and palm breeding and genetic analyses through Marker-Assisted Selection and Breeding for revitalizing the Philippine coconut industry. PMG received and continues to receive funding and support from the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development and the Philippine Genome Center.
