The Institute holistically prepares its students to meet the challenges and needs of the society. Learning is not only confined inside the four corners of the classroom; the Institute ensures that students experience an authentic learning experience by having field works in higher Biology courses, as well as giving the students the freedom to conduct their own research and experiments in their thesis work.

Life in the Institute of Biology is not all about studying, but is also about having a great social life. Students can join various organizations in the Institute such as the Association of Biology Majors (ABM), UP Zoological Society (ZS), and Pre-Medical Honor Society (PMHS), which are the three IB-recognized organizations. Likewise, they can also join different extra-curricular activities which include, but is not limited to, Biology Majors Day, KaSCIyahan and Bioyugyugan.
