Three recently-graduated BS Biology students from the Institute of Biology, UP Diliman won awards for their poster and oral presentations during the 28th Annual Philippine Biodiversity Symposium. Ms. DeAnne Rochelle Abdao and Ms. Cheryl Ann Espanto tied for 1st Place in the Undergraduate Poster Presentation competition. While in the Undergraduation Oral Presentation competition, Mr. Giancarlo Pocholo Enriquez won 3rd Place.
Ms. Abdao presented her thesis entitled “Correlation of diet and prey abundance of Philippine scops owl (Otus megalotis: Walden, 1875) in the Threatened Species Arboretum, University of the Philippines Diliman.” Ms. Espanto’s thesis was on “Characterizing the diet of the Philippine scops owl (Otus megalotis; Walden, 1875) in the University of the Philippines Diliman.” Dr. Carmela Española was the thesis adviser of both Ms. Espanto and Ms. Abdao.
Mr. Enriquez was also awarded for presenting his undergraduate thesis entitled “Germination of Ficus nota upon gut passage in different species of Pteropodids in the Philippines.” He was advised by both Dr. Lillian Jennifer Rodriguez and Dr. Española.
The 28th Annual Philippine Biodiversity Symposium was held last 13-16 August 2019 in the Visayas State University, Baybay City, Leyte with the theme “Conservation Beyond Borders.”
